After the storm

In a storm all it takes is one wrong choice and your in deep doo doo. This week has provided many examples of this. What was she thinking?

Rescue from flooded Rd.

Along with the rescue scenes we always find a picture of a familiar place that is is going under. Slough House always gets flooding, but, this is a little more than usual:

Slough House Inn

Up the road the scene is similar to what we experienced in 1997(yr?) in front of our home.

With initial damage estimates from the weekend storms at $100 million, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has declared a state of emergency in Del Norte, Humboldt, Mendocino, Napa, Sacramento, Sonoma, and Trinity counties.

Hopefully, with New Orleans in their minds, and the present levee breaks around the Sacramento area, our government representatives and the voting public will support funding levee repairs and upgrades.

Political Circles

When conversations turn to politics, I usually remain silent. As they usually turn into opinionated tirades with no constructive result. It is not a lack of knowledge of our government or the principles of democracy that stifle me, but, the unwillingness to expose my opinions to heated moral discussions that tend to circular, ending where they started with no resolve. That stated I type forward and open this subject.

Catfish and Annie

Catfish is on the left and Annie the right. These are members of my family. They hope that you would like to converse with them. Please note that they are all paws so it takes them awhile to get a humom to type for them. They understand that translations from canine to human can be tricky, resulting in miscommunication at times.

Why a Harley Davidson?

Many of my friends ask why did you get a Harley. Usually followed up by statements suggesting I wanted the badass image or I wanted to impress someone. The truth is: I purchased a Harley because of its lower seat height. I am getting older and after a little over 28 years of riding no longer choose to ride a machine that does not allow me to place both feet and the ground when at a stop.

I love metric sport bikes but the larger cc models have higher seat heights. The manufactures of sport bikes need to recognize that I am not going to grow taller and design a bike that accommodates me. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, the average height for an adult female in the United States is: 63.7 inches (5 feet 3.7 inches).
Until the seat heights come down to my level, I am a Harley convert.
