By unanimously adopting the UN Programme of Action to address the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons (UNPoA), in 2001, the UN Member States committed to collecting and destroying illegal weapons, adopting and/or improving national legislations that would help criminalize the illicit trade in small arms, regulating the activities of brokers, setting strict import and export controls, taking action against violators of such laws, and better coordinating international efforts to that end.
Now I am not a fan of the NRA nor do I believe that I would have use for a automatic rifle or a grenade launcher for that matter. But I do believe that in this crazy world we live in, with our government’s tendancy to ignore the Constitution and in effect stomp over citizens rights, in a little document called the Bill of Rights. Heck, I hate guns but I own one. I know how to use it and there are no children in the home. If some of us did not own guns the statement “only criminals would have guns” would be very true in my neighboorhood.
“adopting and/or improving national legislations that would help criminalize the illicit trade in small arms, regulating the activities of brokers, setting strict import and export controls, taking action against violators of such laws, and better coordinating international efforts to that end”
This could be interpreted many ways – lots of room to play with it. Just thought I would point it out as it is worth keeping an eye on.
