SQL, htaccess, and Yahoo Hell

I have been debating changing my internet service from DSL to cable but I really enjoy being able to surf the net when the cable goes down and hence there is no television to mindlessly pass the time. I decided not to change right now even though my service has been changed so many times I can not remember them all. From SBC Global to yahoo to att the list is long through the years.
.
My personal opinion is that since Yahoo got involved my service sucks. I was forced to move my website from geocities to yahoo’s web hosting and I can tell you what a rip.
.
I have just spent way to much time in the past weeks trying to figure out why different WordPress themes had bad behavior across browsers. Then my feeds started going wonky. I did the well known hunt for white spaces in all the php files only to conclude the problem must be with the htaccess file. Ok, well when I was with geocities although there was no access to the file I had a work around where I would just upload my own and for whatever reason it worked. Yahoo web hosting has no means for me to edit the file. Upload a new one etc. So, when it is biffed your toast.
.
I know I need to change web hosting service because – really – hello – I understand Yahoo’s take on security but not allowing me to edit my htaccess file is – well really sucko. Especially when my blog is broke and I can’t fix it. So those of you still using Internet Explorer are just gonna have to deal with a broken looking theme for awhile.
.
I have unsuccessfully exported my database and tried to import it on another host use but for whatever reason the import fails because the database has duplicate entries. AUGH! Once this glitch is figured out I plan on moving my kmilyun.com to another host. I have never done this so it might just be really interesting LOL.
.
I am betting that yahoo will throw in some wrenches. I know it is them LOL cause when I export and import other databases on the other host it works like a charm. I just moved my photoblog database to a new database with a different name and woo hoo it all worked out. On yahoo I can not even get the stupid php admin to work right. Every time I access it I have to reinstall it! And please Oh please don’t suggest I communicate with the help desks at Yahoo – that is akin to a nightmare on blog street.
.
Well more laters . …

  1. This is interesting. I’ve been using Firefox or Safari since replacing my computer last summer. I’ve not had any difficulties viewing your website.

Question – if you were required to move your Geocities website (as I imagine others were too), why are there still Geocities websites out there?

And I didn’t realize that Yahoo had hosting services. My very first website was through Microsoft Office Live. Was very nice to be able to register a URL for free, but there are/were limitations on design. If I could ever figure out how to load my own Theme/Layout, it would be really cool. But maybe that’s an option which comes with one of their paid accounts whereas mine was free.

Anyways, the blog looks fine to me.

  2. hmmm. your database backup failure surprises me. Even with duplicate entries it should be able to be restored…

There’s a plugin for wordpress called Database Cleanup that might help fix whatever is ailing it, then try a new import.

I like Bluehost for hosting — it’s only about $60/year and it’s got a great, friendly interface and automatic wordpress installs/updates.

  3. Yeah it is only internet explorer that shows the problems augh! My feeds just decided to come back on their own emmm …

I use bluehost for my playground as they say. I am thinking of moving this domain over there. I did manually go through the data base and find the duplicates LOL two of them were Karoli ha ha ha ha . …

the database admin is messed up too at yahoo – I guess I could have stayed with geocites at twice the cost and no support. At least that is what the message I received from sbcglobal, I mean at&t I mean – oh who ever they are! Trying to find help files without broken links etc is a pain with yahoo right now. It is kind of like trying to straighten out your att cell phone bill.

No matter what – why would they not allow access to your own sites htaccess file? It kind of makes stuff go in the blogging world.

  4. Hi

I too use firefox and have no problem viewing your website.
Try firefox it is more secure than internet explorer.
    Good luck.
    Love,
    Herrad

  5. I use Firefox most of the time myself. Sometimes I use netscape. I do not use Internet Explorer unless I am checking how things look when I change a theme I always do a cross browser check or, when I can not get something to work because it it setup to only work with IE.
