Illusion of Captured Light
I still hold on to illusions. If I can ignore what is real and believe what I wish to believe regardless of the evidence then for a moment however fleeting I am the master of my fate and I can create the world I want to see.
The trick is to forget the big picture and look at everything else close up. As Gustave Flaubert said “Le bon Dieu est dans le detail” (God is in the details).
Lately I have rediscovered the enthusiasm I held for photography. Capturing a fleeting moment it is a way of stopping time, the study of an instant. An everyday trip into the yard can be an adventure. Voyages into another world, one full of new discoveries large and small are waiting just for me.
Photographer Richard Avedon once said, “I think all art is about control, the encounter between control and uncontrollable”.
Perhaps that is what I am trying to do, write with light (The word Photography comes from two Greek words; phos meaning light and grapho/graphein meaning to write) and create a world where I think I am in control yet realize that the universe our little orb called Earth exists in is a beautiful place. To capture reality and create an illusion where the small becomes large, and the light meets the dark and wins.
