I have some of the rigging done. Need to touch up the painting and redo some crooked stuff LOL Some items not to scale but . .. well it is my first wood model and the instructions were, umm, lacked any detail.

The Cairo Looks good to me. Keep up the effort and keep the photos updated. I will start next week. Wooden boat kits are a definite challenge. My first one got deep sixed.

Just curious – what was your first one? I am going nuts learning from my mistakes on the Mamoli kit. All the instructions are a bad translation from Italian and really are not specific enough for a beginner like myself. They have the Cairo instructions beat hands down though. Hopefully I will finish planking the second round this week and then I will go back to the Cairo for awhile.

It was an East Coast fishing boat with sail. I am going to have the Cairo plans sized to full scale . To be really authentic, just put the smoke stacks on and sink the boat so that the stacks just stick out of the water. Thats how it looked on the Yazoo in 1862 after the rebs blew a hole in the port bow just below the waterline. Add a little figure of Lt. Commander Selfridge going down with the ship.
