Me: can I pull off here and take a picture of the snow?
KRP: No we have to get there before practice ends
Me: a hour later: How about I pull over so I . …
KRP: No we have to get there before practice ends
Me: Wow look at that fire now that would make a cool picture
KRP: No we have to get there before practice ends
and so it went LOL.
Road sign: Right lane closed ahead. Next road sign: left lane closed ahead. Freeway warning sign: construction ahead. And so it went.
We left Sacramento at 3:45p.m. and did not arrive in Carson City until 7:30. we got to see the last 30mins. of practice. I should have stopped for the fire.
Overheard Friday night at the football game: “you ugly bo-tOX bee itch”, “coach you (fill in any derogatory four letter word combo here)”, -aah the joys of the Friday night lights LOL.
I spent the evening making my way up and down the sidelines trying to get a decent shot. The league photographer was an ok type guy. We chatted after he figured out I was not competition for $$’s. I am thinking the give away was that I was showing maybe a couple of grand worth of equipment altogether while he had two setups hanging from his neck each worth 14,000.00 give or take a few hundred. Seriously, I looked it up when I got home. And here I sit drooling over a used D200 that I can not afford (nor do I need it).
When 10p.m. came around the nice cold air got way to cold for my skinny bones. The score was zero to zero and the game went to overtime. The kicker for the Senators (our team) had never ever made a field goal during a game and YEAH he made it! I would like to be big and tell you that I was happy because the team won but honestly I was cheering because I got to go get in my truck and crank up the heater. I know last month I was b’ing cause it was too hot!
I have driven Hwy 80 from Sac to Stagecoach numerous times in the past few years. On the last few trips there has been signage letting drivers know that the Goldrun Rest Area was closed – the next rest area is X miles away. It was such a relief when we found the area open again after construction of new facilities. So, I planned out the pit stops on the way back.
No signs to give hint that the Truckee Rest Area was closed! Ugh oh cause I gotta go and waiting is not a good option ;( it seemed the construction workers decided at this very moment in time, when I had to go, to drive across the exit lanes for the next two exits. Finally made a mad waddle to a gas station rest room. The young man exiting it handed me the key and told me hope you have a air breather and a good stomach for the mess. Now folks when a twenty something guy tells you the restroom is gross – it is gross!
I did get off at a vista stop and got a few pics in and stretched my legs again.
All and all it was a fast trip but it was great to see the kids, watch Ryan play football, and chat with Brandon and his girl. Trish’s hens have matured are now laying so we came home with six dozen fresh eggs. What do you do with six dozen eggs? Well I plan on passing them out to family and friends. I should be very popular tomorrow 😉
I have lots of shots to convert from NEF to Jpeg so I won’t be bored this week. A storm is coming in so that should be entertaining also.

Jan – before Skip switched to a foley catheter, we sought out a lot of bathrooms out on the road. I joked during one weekend in Vermont that we were touring the gas station bathrooms in the state.
Anyway, there’s a product called Travel John you might want to check out.
Hope this link works to a write-up on it…

Cranky,
The problem some of us seem to run into or run too LOL. The truck has a shell on the back and usually if all else fails I do the deed there.
This trip however the darn construction had ever area that could be pulled over or into blocked off.
Thank you for the link. I am stubborn so bet I don’t plan for the worst until it happens.

Most excellent road trip adventure. BR and I head to Houston next week to see a pain specialist. It’s 3.5 hours each way, and we’ll spend the night. I’m trying to convince him to take an extra day or two detour up to Dallas on the way back to see friends. Once we’ve got all the crap packed up in the van, we might as well make the most of it.
