My mind started wondering to the subject of what makes a blog readable?  Some blogs take so much effort to read that if they do not publish a full post in their RSS feed and I have no clue what the posts subject is –  I do not visit the site often. I have enough problems trying to figure out if I understood what the author blogged about.

Along with multiple sclerosis came brain fog.  My reading comprehension skills are OK I sometimes apparently miss others linguistic nuances. Just like I have troubles analyzing facial expressions of others. Are they serious or joking? Is that a nice smile or a grimace? When I read something I am not always sure if the point that I think the author made is really what they meant.  Was the subject again? Oye!

Some blogs go for the bling! Too many side bar goodies and especially the ones the move drive me nuts. When my optic neuritis is bad (one eye is usually wonky) I find them distracting. I wonder if a widget showing everyone who has dropped by is worth the extra load time?  Like a minor version of being stuck in a crowd and getting the sensory overload shut down.  Way too many bling-bling  things and it takes forever to load the site in the browser. My short attention span theater mind moves onto another authors post and another subject.

Moving on to another subject . …

Billy and Trish are coming tonight. We are going to head out to San Francisco early Friday morning as Billy has an appointment at the VA and I get to be the crash test dummy (our name for the third person in the vehicle so  using the HOV lane is legal). This is a great position because the dummy does not have to drive in the city!

So, I am watching the weather over the pass from Nevada to Calif. and hope the snow and rain stay away! They are coming in later tonight so we are impatiently waiting their arrival. If we are going to do any exploring after his appointment I will take my scooter – another subject for another day. We usually try and eat lunch at the Delancy Street Restaurant . We always enjoy the food, the price is right!. and we love the fact that all the workers are getting their lives together. I hope we get to stop in at China Town. I can never, ever get my vehicle in the parking spots that are available and Billy can squeeze their big F350 in to a space fit for a Volkswagen.  I need to stalk up on my favorite mint tea and pick up some more rice sticks (Chinese noodles – Guilin míf?n).  If we make it that far I hope we can visit the Fortune cookie place again – I love the employees and watching the process while stuffing my face with hot cookie chips.

Here is hoping the weather is good in the Bay Area.

What MS Got you here?

After looking through common search terms that landing folks on this blog I really had to giggle.  Length of Mississippi  (MS) river?   (MS) sucks – well I do tend to agree the Microsoft (MS) has a monopoly and is prone to security issues but not exactly what I had in mind. I was writing more about how multiple sclerosis (MS) sucked.  Since this a blog with many tangents and no main topic it is kind of fun.  I always wondered if these hits that were misunderstandings of the meaning of MS contributed to google page rank?

I did make it to the Howard Ranch trail that is located at the Rancho Seco Park – the shut down nuclear reactor home.  I started along the trail and soon realized that I had seriously over estimated my ability.  I took my time making my way along the trail and soon realized that it was getting too warm, I was tired, and holy c%#^ bat man ugh duh like I have to walk back!  Disappointed that I would not make it to the better vernal pools the common sense I am not known for won and I turned around and made my way back to the parking lot. This is a case of having (MS) multiple sclerosis sucks!

Microsoft (MS)

Why do the makers of an operating system platform insist (no matter how hard I try to avoid it) that with every supposed fix or update your computer will magically be upgraded to handle the greedy little memory suck (MS)  that it is?  The poor little Gateway is really getting over whelmed with the new Microsoft (MS) internet explorer and because it is running windows Vista – Microsoft’s (MS) consumer product test for Win 7 I believe there are more bits and bytes used for security updates than the original program. OK an exaggeration but . …  Windows Live, the Cloud, Bing – Microsoft (MS) you still have not got it!  Not to mention that many software developers have not embraced writing for 64bit compatibility.  So those of you who got here looking for a Linux rocks I will give you that MS does suck in many ways, I can not afford an Apple, so MS it will be because of the accessibility features and the other accessibility software companies that write based on it’s platform.

Nicole lives in Mississippi (MS) and has a blog called My New Normals or she can be found on twitter nickname @nclark140 for those of you tweeters.   New Orleans, blogs about things Multiple sclerosis(MS), what more need I say? Well go check her blog out she probably uses Microsoft (MS), lives in Mississippi (MS), and is living with Multiple sclerosis (MS) – I mean three  multiple search (MS) terms in one!

Well back to the Rancho Seco Howard Trail:

Puzzle Piece’s

purple puzzle pieceSometimes trying to find my way in the world is exhausting LOL/ I refer not to mobility but the “where do I fit in this puzzle” thoughts. Searching for where we fit in the social structures of society is a normal thing. Teenagers a perfect example of testing out theories. For many years I had my puzzle put together and I was self assured I knew where my piece fit in. Then came multiple sclerosis! Soon my puzzle started coming apart – puzzle  piece s stopped fitting and soon my puzzle totally disassembled.

If I were to divide my present puzzle up into major components I would start with three. Personal friendships and family, adaptive physical educations class and support group peeps, and Ms bloggers. The first group contains the most puzzle piece s that do not always match.  I thought the second section would contain the most like pieces but . … and the third? Let me know!

Puzzle Pieces – Lost expectations

Gosh I expected that those pieces of my life – my friends and family – would have been the first I could reassemble my puzzle from. Some puzzle piece s grew legs and split as soon as finances became an issue. I never noticed  the image on the puzzle piece was that of dollar bills being spent on dinners out.  The puzzle piece s with single track running though the forest and poker run arrows on the pavement faded and their edges became bent.  Nothing depicts a last minuet road trip than a puzzle piece showcasing the rest stop facilities. Apparently bright blue porta-potties do not blend well with the yellow stripe on the roadway.  I think someone dumped another puzzle into my puzzle box when sorting this one out. After sorting the folks whose pieces still remain form the border of the puzzle. Long gone are the pieces that got lost along the way and a few that are still hiding lost in the fuzz bunnies of my life.

Puzzle Pieces – Comparison’s

Getting pieces to fit in the second section . Each piece has it’s own set of sort rules. In PE the people with MS are down right obvious about their sorting. I listen and observe and it has been amazing. First of I must admit that I have my own sorting process – those who try to exercise and those who do not. This sort of mine includes everyone in the class. The MS people (most attend or support group also) seem to spent a lot of time deciding where everyone fits in their world. I finally overheard enough whispered comments to get a general idea of the main sort. Those who can do many things better than the person sorting and those who are worse off. By their standards of coarse :). If doing better they start discussing it. I am so happy to hear that I must not have MS because I can do _________. It would be funny but ostracism is not fun if your the one left out.

The most interesting part of the sort to me in class is that the non MS folks do not seem to judge as much. They either like someone or they don’t. It does not appear to be based on abilities but personalities. Cool. Wonder why the MS peeps judge so much? It is understandable that everyone is not everyone ‘s cup of tea so to say but, tossing out a puzzle piece based on how it’s disability compares to yours is illogical to me. If I were to toss out all the pieces that were smarter, faster, more tenacious than I, I would end up with a bunch of pieces all of the same shape, size, and pattern – how would my puzzle come together to form a complete picture?

Computer Wires Japan

computer lights onSometimes life just happens when not sitting at the computer and blogging about it. I have spent the past week playing with the new computer – just not blogging.  It is amazing how much smaller screws are and when did wires start having a life of their own? It does not take a lot of brains to figure out the most of the peeps who read this blog are not particularly fond or excited over reading about computers. Unless of course, it is about a computer  crash or nifty new computer  program.  I am going to blog about my computer anyway – just keep in mind that golly gee – it is what I have occupied myself with for five days.   Most of us with multiple sclerosis and/or other illnesses are keenly aware that things are usually not as easy to do as they were in the past.  I stubbornly refuse to except defeat when it comes to getting tiny little screws into the tiny little holes.  This is not always a good thing frustration wise.  But I have learned that some projects are going to get done whether it takes one hour or five days.   So I decided to clean up the cluster @uck of wires, clean the components, replace the hard drive, and add a photo card reader. I so need to hookup my keyboard and trackball.  I am familiar with my keyboard and have mentioned in a prior post how I dislike mice. I think swapping them from one computer to other is next on the list.  I also need to install some software still.  Where O where did I put all those little product keys – just  kidding – I am really good about keeping those little (well ok long) activation codes safe.

Lots of stuff went wrong when doing this. I dropped screws and my brain on MS lost track of what wire I had moved where and where I was going to put it.  Then the dang things were very non cooperative in where I could route them so they were not hanging out there all ugly. There is a good reason to organize them other than aesthetics – when tucked in all nice they do not hinder air flow.   Better air flow and the CPU runs cooler.  They can behave very wonky – just like me when I get to hot -and even fry out from too much heat. The other thing I a have been watching the past few days is the geologic activity around Japan. Yikes as I started typing out this post the RSS feed I watch went nuts!  The 5.0’s and 7.0’s have been going on for awhile but 8.9!! Yikes. I just got back from the tele and I can only pray for those folks.  The tsunami – oh my. Ok back again and I guess Hawaii is on alert now. The ring of fire has been busy lately.  Watching my RSS feed for quakes over 5.0 is interesting.  I just told everyone at lunch how I thought there was going to be a good size one coming up because of all the activity – sure wish I had been wrong. Well I am no longer into doing the blog thing cause – well just like I started this post mentioning – life happens – even with multiple sclerosis. BlogCatalog
