Pat Roberstson- Stuck in the Old Testament
Just because a person claims to be, a Christian does not mean they follow the teachings of Christ. Christians theoretically follow the teachings of Christ. Pat Robertson seems to be stuck in the First Covenant between God and man. The Second Covenant, The New Testament, does not seem to support his comments. The word “testament” means “agreement”, God establishes a “New Agreement” with us through Jesus Christ.
In the Old Testament, those who waged war in God’s name were called His children, but now those who wage peace are His children.
However, some rebel and protest the part of our “New Agreement” with God over turning the other cheek and allowing us to be wronged. “You have heard it said, “an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.” “But I say to you, do not resist him who is evil, but whoever slaps you on the right cheek turn to him the other also. (Matthew 5:38)
Pat Robertson’s latest comments regarding Ariel Sharon are not in keeping with the New Testament.
“If you do not forgive those who sin against you,” Jesus said, “your Father will not forgive your sins” Matthew 6:15.
“Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone hits you on the cheek, offer them the other cheek. If someone takes your cloak, don’t stop him taking your tunic. Give to everyone who begs, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you. After all, if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them” Luke 6:27-32.
These were just some of my silly thoughts on the subject today. I am betting that the news commentaries, bloggers and personal web sites will go on and on about this for quit sometime. . .
