The USPS Bites
Yes I know with all the turmoil going around this is probably not a big deal but then again …
March 3rd KRP checked the mail box to see if there was a card from my dad. Not an easy date to forget because she was checking on my birthday in disbelief I had not received one. I assure you the mail was checked on the 3rd.
We got a new mailman apparently. So, after living in the same place, same address, since 1982 somewhere before this Friday the 12th he placed a card in our box that said the box was empty, no one lived at this address and it has lines for the new occupants to fill in their names etc so the mail can be delivered. SAY WHAT!! Ok, no one went out and got the mail for emm lets see 12-3=9 do nine days – our bad but we have had such practices for like over 10 years.
Moving on, after phone tag and finally reaching our local branch KRP was told that the mail was not picked up for 10 days and the postman took it back to the post office and left a note in the box and then Friday they sent it all back – yes sir ee all of it stamped moved no forwarding address given. Bet VISA is gonna like that one LOL! Well now when it was pointed out the no way you held it that long we were called liars and the woman went into a repeat we have procedures — we have procedures — yah ones you did not follow for starts and no way we cleared the box on the 3rd – well I personally authorized it and we looked at all the mail to verify that it had been there over 10 days> WTF round and round with someone who eventually hung up on us. Where is our mail? AUGH!! Apparently the other neighbors have noticed our new mailman and are not exactly impressed with him.
So whip me with a wet noodle we let our mail sit in the box for 9 days and you decided to send it back but _ DO NOT LIE TO ME!!!!
Maybe I am wrong but why would a brand new carrier on this route to not at least wait the 10 days or gosh maybe find out if someone still lived there??? After reading the USPS complaints and horror stories on the consumer sites I find that there really is no one to complain to other than those your are complaining about and it is highly suggested that we get a PO Box in a different zip code because apparently our postal workers are a tad vindictive. I ask how else you suppose to get your mail?
So Monday will be spent finding a PO Box and calling all the companies to give them the new mailing address with a simple they sent it back by accident so we are getting a PO Box now. I hope we can get one where our friend has one as the UPS store manager is most awesome and will even ring if she gets a large parcel or forgets to pick up her mail.
Bet you can not guess who is suppose to remember to get the mail – :-0
From the USPS web site:
Full Mailbox
If a letter carrier notices that a mailbox has filled up to the extent that no more mail will fit in the mailbox and it is apparent that the dwelling unit is vacant, the mail is brought back to the office and returned to sender identified as “vacant property”.
If a mail receptacle is deemed by the carrier to be full and the letter carrier knows that customers still live at that location, the mail is brought back to the office and handled as “Hold” mail. This mail will be held for 30 days. A PS Form 3849 (Delivery Attempt Notice) is left in the mail receptacle.
