Blogging used to be so simple. At least for me it seemed to go ok.
Now blogger’s are doing all sorts of things to make sure the evil spam does not make it to their comment sections. I have been lucky mostly in this area – awhile ago when more peeps were checking in a few got by the spam patrol – usually on old posts. So, if one kept getting them I just closed it for comments – done deal. Spam sucks!
Now some bloggers are going to Discus, friendfeed, the list goes on and on. Trouble is I forget what password I used for what service. Trying to leave a simple two line comment turns into a hunting expedition, usually I have to do the email me my last password or reset it thing – AUGH
Then I guess I am such a poop that some blogs don’t let me leave one, or when I do it never makes it past the approval stage LOL It is rather a new thing, this new if the blog owner doesn’t agree with me or someone they know decides I am not a nice person – then ha ha we shall not be approved ha ha ha
A gal could get a complex you know.
Or, the new sneaky one – where blogger A tells blogger B they think blogger C is ________ -and blogger B blogs a new post that is so like a message to blogger C – that in some cases might be you or me. Oh wells -wondering where the free speech and information flow went.
Seems rather clichish and highschool to me sometimes.
I am guessing that blogging what is on ones mind whether or not it is popular opinion is not what some of you consider copacetic – at least not in your cyber circle.
I admire some of my blogger friends who can keep up on all the new social networking, in fact I belong to many of them just because they do. Why not?
Well if you agree or disagree with me on something you could always just post your comment here OK?
I TOTALLY agree. I have even almost given up blogging because of the high school BS, cliches, emailing each other about me or my post, using made up names/avatars just to make nasty comments—so childish. I LIKE when people share opinions diferent from mine! I’ve never been hasseled and only have to keep off fake blogs and advertisers. I’ve stopped commenting on blogs that make me jump through too many hoops.
It is rather unenlightened of them. For me I try to respect others opinions and points of view. I learn more that way.
Now the spammers are annoying as heck. My friends blog is fairly high ranked and I can not imaging having to deal with all the junk she gets.
In my perfect world, I’d have kept Disqus but not required registration, allowing for anonymous comments. Unfortunately, it meant having to get rid of all the stupid ‘fake’ comments that were being left, meaning that I had to live with getting rid of them every day.
The good part of Disqus is that once you register you can comment on any Disqus-enabled blog and not have to re-register, which makes it pretty portable.
Friendfeed is more of an aggregator…but if someone is on Friendfeed they can comment from there without having to register for Disqus, which is why it’s easier for some to use.

it is too bad that you have to go to such lengths to try and foil the spammers.
at least there are options like disqus and friendfeed.
I get more spam than legit comments LOL I can imagine that a busy blog as yours presents a logistic nightmare.
I am glad you took the time and found a doable system. Too bad you had too.
If there were one universal system all would be good. As it is some blogs use google some use disqus the list goes on and on – I get so confused it is funny 🙂 I really dislike the ones where I have to figure out the silly picture and duplicate it – not numb finger friendly.
I will always follow your blog and sign up for whatever method you choose as I know you are always on top of it.

I really dislike the advertising spam and try to delete it once it gets through. I don’t moderate cause that would seem like too much work and then I’d feel responsible for getting to it almost immediately.
I agree that any situation where other blogger ‘friends’ talk behind backs is childish. That’s uncalled for. IMHO.
I get more spam then comments LOL so I started using James McKay’s comment timeout plugin. Way cool – as it sends any comment that is on a post older than (whatever I set it too) into moderation queue.
I probably would get more comments if I commented more myself! But, I am just starting back up here and have found the atmosphere has changed a lot.
